The December auction market has commenced with more generally steady clearance rates as listings predictably fell over the penultimate auction week of the year.

The national weekend auction market reported a clearance rate of 60.1% over the past week which was higher than the 58.2% reported over the previous week – but just below the 61.5% recorded over the corresponding weekend last year.

Clearance rates have continued to reflect generally positive results for most sellers as the auction season winds down with only one week left until the lengthy holiday break.

The national weekend auction market reported a clearance rate of 60.1% over the past week which was higher than the 58.2% reported over the previous week – but just below the 61.5% recorded over the corresponding weekend last year.

Clearance rates have continued to reflect generally positive results for most sellers as the auction season winds down with only one week left until the lengthy holiday break.

The Sydney auction market reported a sharply lower clearance rate over the past week compared to the previous week's results despite a fall in listings.

Sydney recorded a clearance rate of 62.4% over the week which was well below the 68.0% recorded over the previous week and lower than the 66.9 % rate recorded over the corresponding weekend last year.

Auction numbers were also lower over the past week with 1169 listed versus the 1345 recorded over the previous week and also below the 1205 reported over the same week last year.

Sydney recorded a median price of $1,687,500 for houses sold at auction over the past week which was lower than the previous week’s $1,895,250 but 5.5% higher than the $1,600,000 recorded over the weekend of the same week last year.

The Central Coast and the North West each recorded the highest regional clearance rate over the past week at 66.7% followed by the West at 64.7%. The Lower North reported the lowest clearance rate at 42.9%.

The clearance rate for houses was 65.4% with units lower this week at 54.6%.

The most affordable home reported sold at auction in Sydney over the past week was a 1-bedroom unit at 91/459-463 Church St Parramatta that sold for $405,000.

Melbourne auction results

Melbourne auction clearance rates were steady over the past week compared to the previous weeks results with listings predictably lower as the season wanes.

Melbourne recorded a clearance rate of 64.0% over the past week which was similar to the 64.1% recorded over the previous week but higher than the 61.5% recorded over the weekend of the corresponding week last year.

1328 homes were reported listed over the past week which was well below the 1567 auctioned over the previous week but higher than the 1279 listed over the same week last year.

Melbourne recorded a median price of $956,500 for houses sold at auction over the past week which was lower than the $1,007,000 reported over the previous week and 11.4% lower than the $1,080,000 recorded over the corresponding weekend last year.

Melbourne’s Outer East reported the top regional clearance rate over the past week with 67.9% followed by the Inner East at 66.9% and the North East at 66.2 %. The Inner City and the West each recorded the lowest regional rate at 59.0%.

The house clearance rate for houses was 64.7% with units lower again at 56.5%.
