I grew up in a family where we were fortunate enough to have enough food, but we never went on holidays. We never owned a car. I remember listening to stories of how my father lost money on real estate. But on the other hand how his sister owned real estate and she was very wealthy. When my wife and I were married we made a major blunder buying real estate and neither of us had a great education. However we both had desire to improve our wealth. I tried all sorts of things. However one of the most beneficial was investing in furthering my education. I was only a very average student, but I was willing to work hard, even though I did not have the best health. Anyway many years went by and we moved away from our home town and I started commuting to work on a bicycle and my health improved. I had managed to obtain a degree and my income improved. Down the track we bought one then a second investment property. By that time I was nearing retirement and we had not managed to pay off our own home. Nevertheless I had acquired a fair amount of Superannuation and we bought some land interstate. I retired and we sold up everything and moved interstate and after a long winded struggle we built a beautiful home. All our hard work paid off and we were able to sell it for a good profit. This enabled us to finally pay out all our debts. We took action and despite our poor beginnings and and health issues and without any wise guidance from our respective families, we achieved a measure of success. Life is not meant to be easy but if you keep striving success can be yours. You must take action and you must be willing to take reasonable risks with investments and work hard.
