Sydney Reports Lower School Holiday Auction Results
The Sydney auction market recorded lower results at the weekend reflecting the impact of school holidays.
Sydney recorded a clearance rate 66.6% of at the weekend which was lower than the 71.8% recorded over the previous weekend and also lower than the 73.0% recorded over the same weekend last year.
Saturday school holiday auction numbers were predictably lower at the weekend with 528 listed versus the 750 previous weekend, but remained significantly above the 445 listed over the same weekend last year.
Sydney recorded a median price of $1,631,000 for houses sold at auction at the weekend which was lower than the $1,680,000 recorded over the previous weekend but 5.2% higher than the $1,550,000 recorded over the same weekend last year.
The City and East recorded the highest regional clearance rate at the weekend at 77.2% followed by the Upper North Shore at 76.6% and the Inner West 72.7%. The South West reported the lowest clearance rate at 54.7%.
The clearance rate for houses was 66.5% with units higher again this weekend at 67.2%.

The most affordable home reported sold at auction in Sydney at the weekend was a 2-bedroom unit at 4/13 Kingsland Rd S Bexley that sold for $463,000.
Melbourne auction clearance results
Higher Melbourne Results
Clearance rates were higher in Melbourne this weekend with listings also on the rise.
Melbourne recorded a clearance rate of 69.4% on Saturday which was higher than the 65.7% recorded over the previous weekend but again lower than the 76.7% recorded over the same weekend last year.
801 homes were reported listed over the weekend which was higher than the 788 auctioned over the previous weekend and again well ahead of the 507 listed over the same weekend last year.
Melbourne recorded a median price of $1,025,000 for houses sold at auction at the weekend which was again higher than the $981,000 reported over the previous weekend and 3.0% higher than the $995,000 recorded over the same weekend last year.
Melbourne’s North East reported the top regional clearance rate on Saturday with 75.1% closely followed by the Inner East at 74.3% and the Outer East 73.8%. The Inner City again recorded the lowest regional rate at 57.6%.
The house clearance rate was 68.3% with units higher again this weekend at 73.8%.
